The Flemish Masters such as Van Eyck, Bruegel, Rubens and Van Dyck are well known in the UK. The Diplomatic Representation supports exhibitions, catalogues and lectures on the Flemish Masters in collaboration with British museums, such as, in recent years, the Scottish National Gallery, the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and the Holbourne Museum in Bath.
Sometimes the Government of Flanders will enter into a broader partnership with a top museum. For example in February 2020, when Minister-President Jan Jambon opened the Léon Spilliaert Exhibition in the Royal Academy. In 2016-2017, the Royal Academy put on the exhibition 'Intrigue: James Ensor by Luc Tuymans' with significant contributions from the Government of Flanders. Before that the Government of Flanders provided support for the Jan Gossaert exhibition at the National Gallery. During these collaborations, the Diplomatic Representation also organised an 11th of July reception at these prestigious locations.
The Diplomatic Representation also supports contemporary artists. In the period 2015-2018, the Government of Flanders offered stays for Flemish artists at the Gasworks London arts centre, known for its residency programmes.
