Flanders Day 2022

  • July 15, 2022

On 7 July we celebrated Flanders Day.

For the occasion, we had the chance to be in a spiegeltent, a true piece of Flemish heritage! To highlight the special connection between the tent and the shows that it hosted and still hosts, we organized two surprise acts from Flanders for our guests. Earlier in the day, we also facilitated a meeting between Circuscentrum and their British counterparts, thus promoting the strengths of contemporary circus and performing arts.

The evening started with mentalist Kurt Demey, and after the speeches by General Representative Bart Brosius, director of Visit Flanders UK Andrew Daines and the head of Flanders Investment & Trade Dirk Verlee,  we were also treated to a gravity-defying roller-skate act by Jasper and Yolaine from 15Ft6.

During his speech, General Representative Bart Brosius mentioned that it is hugely important to celebrate culture and diversity after Brexit. Culture brings us closer. Cultural exchange is a recipe for building new friendships.
He also illustrated the long-standing relations between Flanders and the United Kingdom and mentioned the strong potential in research collaboration and cooperation in the fields of Transportation, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture Storage and the Circular Economy.

The evening then continued with Flemish food and drinks and live music.
We all had a very special evening!

If you would like to see more performing arts from Flanders this Summer in London, why not enjoy the performances of three Flemish companies (Karel Casier & Aat Dirks, Sur Mesure and Be Flat), part of  the Focus on Flanders strand of the GDIF Festival
