Being a comic hero has traditionally been the dominion of the male. This is about to be challenged through a new exhibition called ‘Hero(ine)s’ featuring iconic comic heroes re-interpreted in their female form. Flemish comic artist Brecht Vandenbroecke's work is part of the exhibition. He made a new cover for a female version of the children's comic book 'Barnaby Bear' ('Pol' in Dutch). The exhibition will be open at the Vallum Gallery at the University of Cumbria campus, Carlise on May 7–21 and will return again as part of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival in Kendal, Cumbria 12–14 October.
